Taking Inventory

Every January, I schedule a couple of days to work in my storage unit, which is where I house my staging furniture and accessories. I go through all the pillows, bedding, dishes, artwork, lamps, vases, plants and take a good hard look at each item and ask myself, “Would I put that in my own home?”

If the answer is yes, then the items stays. If not, it goes off to the consignment store. If the item is white, it gets a pass because, “White is the Answer!

The whole point of staging a home is to make it look updated, new and fresh. Therefore I need to keep my inventory new and fresh. This whole exercise is very therapeutic as I clean and organize along the way and it makes me feel ready for the next project. There is a huge sense of self-satisfaction when I am done.

This year, I will turn 55 in October. Yes, that is a very big number but I put it out there to share it, to own it and to accept it! And I thought it would be the perfect time to take my own self-inventory. So in addition to looking at pillows, bedding and towels, I am looking at myself in the mirror, looking in my drawers and closet, looking at my own house, looking at my finances and I have outlined goals for each.

My goals are categorized in the following way:

  • Personal
  • House
  • Financial
  • Business

Since 55 is the big number, I have tried to incorporate into my goals.

Personal:
(here are just a few)

  1. IMG_6461.jpgNo alcohol for 55 days. I have a couple of friends who look great. They have lost weight and their skin looks amazing. When I asked them what they were doing, they said they stopped drinking wine. Makes good sense and I am now on day 24 and have to say that I don’t miss it. I have started drinking Kevita sparkling probiotic drinks instead of wine. I put them in a wine glass and it fills the void.
  2. 55 ABS per day – this means I have to do 55 sit-ups, crunches ~ anything related to my ABS every day!

House:

  • Order new window coverings for my master bedroom and bathroom by February 5!
  • Recover the counter stools in my kitchen by March 15.

Already, I am feeling a real sense of satisfaction and the 55 theme is helping to keep it fun and keep me on track! You might want to do the same and use a special number to set goals for yourself. Have fun taking Inventory!
