Gratitude

Life continues to move at warped speed at my house ~ I always thought that once my kids went off to college, things would slow down.  No such luck!  I have talked to our friends who are in the same boat and we all agree that we never thought we would be working this hard at this age.  And it’s true ~ I am constantly thinking that as soon as I finish this project, then I will have some down time but it never seems to happen. 39 Days and Counting!

I am a planner, an organizer, a goal setter.  I take great pleasure in mapping things out and crossing things off my TO DO LIST.  I learned this from my mom ~ write everything down.  It makes life so much easier and does keep you on track.  Don’t think of it as a chore.  Think of it as a privilege. Think of it as a game and try to make it fun.  Share your goals with others ~ be accountable and when you aren’t successful, embrace that as well. Continue reading

Taking Inventory

Every January, I schedule a couple of days to work in my storage unit, which is where I house my staging furniture and accessories. I go through all the pillows, bedding, dishes, artwork, lamps, vases, plants and take a good hard look at each item and ask myself, “Would I put that in my own home?”

If the answer is yes, then the items stays. If not, it goes off to the consignment store. If the item is white, it gets a pass because, “White is the Answer!Continue reading

Lulu Leads to Low, Low Self-Esteem for This Girl!!

FullSizeRender

Safe to say that lululemon is the hottest thing out there for workout clothes. EVERYBODY is wearing it even though you have to take a second mortgage out on your house to buy it. But, hey, it’s worth it to be hip and look good. I remember when it was brand new and my daughter begged for a pair of leggings and I finally gave in and bought her a pair.

So last spring, I decided it was time. I needed to make a change in my workout wardrobe and thought I could join all the beautiful people who sport around in their lululemon gear. I went to the store in Walnut Creek and of course it was packed – it always is. I loaded up on leggings of all styles and several tops and into the fitting room I went with my 19-year-old sales person writing my name on the door. “Is that Teresa with or without an H?” Of course, she along with every employee in the store was looking great in their leggings and tennis shoes…why shouldn’t I??

Have to say it might have been worse than bathing suit shopping. The tops were too tight and the leggings certainly were not flattering. I am not a fan of tight fitting anything so this was certainly a struggle for me. They have double mirrors in the dressing rooms so you get a birds eye view of what your rear end looks like and let’s just say it was not what I was hoping for. What was wrong with me? Nothing was working and I was depressed.

So when my sales person inquired, I opened the door and showed her how the cropped mid-rise leggings looked. I said, “ I don’t know what is wrong with me! Nothing I try on looks right. Maybe I don’t have the body for this look or maybe I am just too old …” She looked at me in a very nice way and said, “That is not true but I think if you put the pants on the right way, they might look better. You have them on backwards!!!”

Sometimes it’s hard to be hip!!

Time to get to the gym!

Anal Retentive

For many years, I have labeled myself as anal-retentive.  I think it surprises people when I use the term but I know it is who I am.

Today after coming back from a very brisk, chilly walk with my dog, I noticed our pool was filled with leaves.  We have a pool sweep but I could see the bag was full.  I know our pool service will be here later today but I couldn’t walk away from it.  So I pulled out the sweep, emptied the bag (which is very messy and had a critter in it) and started the process of skimming the pool.

I found it therapeutic and relaxing in the cold sunshine on this Wednesday morning. Continue reading
